Let The Invasion Begin

School is out for the summer and my mom is on her way here to spend the week days with me while Dave's at work.  Princess Quinn and her BFF are also making an appearance for the week (I was told the beach and pool were the main attractions).  I'm officially old enough to think my mom visiting is cool.

My mobility is decreasing.  A 30 minute shopping trip puts me out of commission for the rest of the day.  The babies are thumping around on a regular basis.  They are big enough now that I can tell which one is moving when.

Just A Spoonful Of Peanut Butter . . .

Does help the medicine go down for our first born, Lavender.  Turns out she has a bladder infection, possibly causing her accidents.  Twice a day she gets a cocktail of pills to help clear the infection.

She could care less about the medicine, it's the delivery method that gets her tail wagging.  We stuff the pills inside a piece of peanut butter on bread.

Bailey gets one too sans-meds (can't play favorites).  Here's hoping giving medicine to our babies will be just as easy . . .

The nursery is almost finished, just a few finishing touches and we'll be ready for the babies.  We'll de-dog the car this week and get the car seat bases installed.

That's all for now.

Eleven Pounds of Baby

Met with the Maternal Fetal Medicine specialist yesterday.  They did another growth scan.  If Baby A is still Wizard then he is around 5 lbs. 2 oz. and Baby B (Nugget) is 6 lbs. 3 oz..  Folks, that's approximately 11 lbs. of baby in my belly (trust me, I feel every ounce).

Now that I'm at 34 weeks they will no longer do the preterm labor test or check my cervical lining.  The reason being if I go into labor now they will not try to stop the process.  Both babies have good strong heartbeats and at the moment both heads are down (will she still do the c-section . . . I'm not telling).

We'll be spending the rest of the weekend getting the house ready for babies . . . just in case they decide to come next week.  Dave is pretty confident I won't go into labor until the end of June (this could be denial talking).

Have a great weekend, ya'll!

34 Weeks Update

I did it!  Made it safely to 34 weeks (where's my prize?).  At 34 weeks the babies' lungs are well developed, this is true even for singleton pregnancies.   Going into early labor at this point, while not ideal, would be okay because the babies have a good chance of survival outside of the womb.

Things are getting a little crowded in the belly, lots of movement.  I have an appointment with the Maternal Fetal Medicine specialist tomorrow.  I'm not sure if they will do a growth scan.  These babies feel like they are 5 lbs. each, which would be good weights for this stage of the game.

The nursery is a slow work in progress.  Hopefully we can have it finished by the end of the weekend.  We just received two mattresses in the mail today!  I think we now have all the major items (a truly wonderful feeling for this ruffle-feathered mama).

Since being diagnosed with gestational diabetes, I haven't gained any additional weight.  The diet is not difficult (just boring and annoying).  Imagine watching commercial after commercial for made-from-scratch biscuits (darn you McDonald's), or soup/salad and bread stick lunches for only $6.99 with your beautiful and perfectly teeth- whitened friends (thanks, Olive Garden); yet knowing you can't run off and enjoy these cravings.

Rational Emily (does she still exists?) understands the pros of not gaining too much pregnancy weight . . . shedding the pounds post delivery should be easier.  She also understands this is temporary; once the babies come I can binge on high-fat ice cream, greasy pizza and artery clogging cheeseburgers.  However, highly-hormonal, sleep-deprived, chronically-fatigued, uncomfortably-pregnant Emily just wants to eat an entire chocolate cake without potentially damaging her babies (simple request, really).

Don't get me wrong, I can go out to eat.  In fact we celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary on Monday (a very low key affair).  I wanted to go out for dinner, which can be challenging when trying to monitor your total carb in-take.  I picked Outback due to their very helpful online diabetic nutritional guide.

The main goal was to fit dessert into the meal.  I enjoyed a salad, lean steak, green beans and HOT FUDGE SUNDAE (using no sugar added, low fat ice cream, of course)!  My glucose reading was 121 two hours post dinner, the goal is 120 or less (not bad in my opinion).

As we get closer to 37 weeks (considered full term for twins), I'll try and update more frequently for those curious about the approaching 'Big Reveal'.

Work In Progress

As promised, here are some before and after photos of the new house.  We've managed to get the kitchen and living room organized (approximately 30% of the house).  Dave deserves a spa day and I do believe he's man enough to accept one.

We've been in the house full-time for over a week now.  Things are coming together slowly but surely.  Every night after work Dave is either painting some wall or moving heavy crap from one room to another.

A huge 'THANK YOU' to my girl Ash for visiting us on moving day.  She spent the evening organizing our kitchen cabinets.  Folks, she's got skills, our spices have never been so organized.
