Dramatic Interpretations

This morning I asked the twins if they wanted to get ready to go outside.  While I was searching for their day clothes they were busy 'getting ready to go outside' . . .

Lady Belle actually put on her shoes and hat, an 'A' for effort.
Never mind the shoes are on the wrong feet . . .

Well, Finn, he ran and grabbed . . . a shoe . . .
from Mommy's closet . . . A+ for creativity!!

The Reality of Fantasies

During our one, brief, shining foray into warmer weather, we spent some time admiring all the boats docked at the marina while taking lunch at Dockside.

This one was right next to the restaurant and my first choice as a possible future boat purchase--until Dave mentioned the only way we could call it ours was if it were our permanent residence:

Maybe this one is more within the rehelm of possibility.  We could call it 'Fertility Treatment' in honor of it's price tag:

However, if we're being painfully honest, this is realistically the only boat we should own; and not nearly as satisfying to fantasize about:

Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day

Happy 50th Anniversary Bubble Wrap. Here's a fun site to surf while you pretend to work (or ignore your children--don't judge).

Random Conversations

Overheard while driving home from church:

Me:  'Finnlay, please don't open the car door while Daddy is driving.  You could fall out and get hurt.  You'd feel really bad and Mommy would be very, very sad.  You're irreplaceable--one of a kind.'

Dave:  'Unlike Daddy, who has an identical brother, which makes him two of a kind . . . '

Don't worry, folks.  We've activated the child safety locks on the car now that the twins have located the door handles and found immeasurable joy in touching them.

Note To Self

I've learned a lot these past two weeks.  Here's what I've managed to remember from it all:

  1. One person CAN raise twins all by themselves, but two people make it so much easier (Dave was traveling most of last week for work).
  2. If you keep serving the same thing every night for dinner, eventually your children will break down and eat it (Mommy made too many mashed potatoes, so she turned them into potato pancakes and will continue serving them until they are all gone).
  3. Car accidents make the heart grow fonder (yes, we were in one over the weekend and yes we are all very grateful to be okay-- the car will be in the shop for the rest of the month).
  4. When your child's toe breaks through the sole of his shoe, it's time for a new pair--or your other child starts ripping out the inner soles of her shoes, it's time for a new pair (either way, we had to buy new shoes this weekend for the twins.  Already!?!  I know, right?).
  5. Always remember to ask 'is this covered under our insurance?' (I mistakenly asked for an $800 alternative endometriosis therapy medication that might not be covered under our insurance plan--whoops!  I wonder what sort of return policy there is for a used Mirena . . .).
For now, that is all.

Why All Theatre Majors Should Be Teachers. . .

Friday night I met up with my old friends from Winthrop's theatre department.  Most of my freshman and sophomore years were spent in that department (it was the only cool place on campus).

So, what do theatre majors do for a living (aside from keep odd hours and still live on ramen noodles)?  Interestingly enough 15% of the group are teachers!  The other 85% either have desk jobs they hate, work in retail or restaurants, a few were/are massage therapist, and some were lucky enough to find full time work in theatre.

So why do I think more theatre majors should be teachers?  Here's my rationale:
  • Theatre majors are use to making no money. . . so are teachers.
  • Teaching gives you at least 4 or 5 one Act performances a day (never mind the audience is forced by law to attend).
  • Teachers get summers off (perfect for doing summer theatre work).
  • Theatre majors are quirky and cool. . . schools need more quirky and cool teachers.
There you have it.  Of course, since I'm becoming a teacher I obviously think everyone I know should be one too (who doesn't want to work with their friends).

On the fertility front, I did my trial transfer and sonogram on Friday.  Everything went smoothly and Dr. Skywalker was pleased.  The sonogram was a little painful, just tiny 1 - 2 second cramps (nothing some ibuprofen couldn't handle).

The sonogram was needed to take pictures of my uterus and make sure there are no polyps or other abnormalities.  The trial transfer makes sure a special procedure is not needed during embryo transfer (I was normal).

I got my second Lupron shot and marching orders for starting IVF treatment.  My first stimulation shot and ultrasound begins on October 13th.  Yippee!

Get in my BELLY!

We're finally settled from our weekend trip to Myrtle Beach, SC.  Here are some of the pictures from the baby shower.  Visual proof, if you will, that I did in fact try to 'catch' getting pregnant.  Later this week I will try using the law of attraction and various feng shui techniques to increase my fertility chances (sadly, I'm probably 60% serious and 40% joking).

The beautiful pregnant chic is my dear friend Sarah.  I've known her since the 7th grade; which means I've known her for over 20 years now (freaky feeling).

The baby is a boy.  They've already picked out a name, which they are keeping a secret (very smart idea).  His first name starts with a 'C'.  Here are some of my guesses:  Caesar, Chi, Chikamasa, Cannabas, or Centzonuitznauachalchiuhtlatonal (actual Mexican boy name).

The shower was on the 12th floor of a really nice oceanfront resort.  We ended up having a slumber party complete with midnight pizza delivery, pregnant 'glamour shots' (gone horribly wrong), and an after-pool-hours dip in the resort's jacuzzi (Security came and politely asked us to go inside).

It was a wonderful shower and evening (the moon was almost full)!  I never once felt 'baby envy' (probably because I'm so embarrassingly self-absorbed in my own IVF adventure right now).  In fact, to my surprise I became the unofficial (and highly unqualified) fertility expert for some of the guests who were also trying to get pregnant.  Who knows, maybe this blog will actually be useful to my new baby shower friends.

Who cares what I think?

Hello All!

I've been very reluctant to start a blog for many reasons (we'll get to those in a bit), but my mind has now changed (and for some strange reason Dave thinks this is a good idea).  The tipping point came late last night while I was reading two blogs sent by a very admired and trusted friend, Amanda H.

Basically, I've been keeping a mental 'Pros' and 'Cons' list on starting a blog.  Here's my running list.

Pros
  1. To entertain my dear girl 'Teppie' while she works.
  2. This past February, I quit a lucrative career in Marketing (therefore I suffer from communications withdrawal).
  3. Dave and I are dealing with serious fertility issues (writing about it will most likely be therapeutic).
  4. I just finished reading a GREAT blog from Amanda's friend who is documenting her In Vitro journey (giving me some much needed confidence for my own).
  5. I have family and friends, literally all over the world, to keep in touch with (blogging eliminates time zone challenges).
  6. For some crazy reason I'm going to grad school to become a Teacher (there's got to be a story there just waiting to happen).
Now, for why I've been so reluctant. . .

Cons
  1. Who cares what I have to say?
  2. The Internet is a scary place full of pervs, right?
  3. Who cares what I have to say?
  4. I'm the world's worst speller.  Who wants to read a blog full of my typos?
  5. Who cares what I have to say?
  6. Surely I will say something inappropriate and inevitably regret it.
  7. And finally, who cares what I have to say?
So the 'Pros' finally outweighed the 'Cons'.  There you have it, 'Emily Logic' for why I've finally decided to jump on the blog-wagon.

Here's my promise to everyone:

I will promise to regularly write on this blog, as long as you promise to regularly read and occasionally comment.
